Simply Women is a series of images made by Franki Raffles during the 13th Commonwealth Games held in Edinburgh in July and August 1986. The photographs were initially exhibited at Meadowbank Sports Centre in Edinburgh and then toured venues, libraries, community centres across the city from December 1986 to May 1987.
The exhibition was commissioned by Edinburgh District Council’s Department of Education, and consisted of some 45 images, divided into sections representing ‘Preparation, Competition and Recovery’.
These images remain a powerful document of the efforts and achievements of the women athletes represented.
